   App-Pendix Enterprise Directory
Download Overview       Download User Guide       Download Evaluation

Consolidate IP Phone Directories across clusters and data sources types.

Overview

App-Pendix consolidates IP Phone directories and makes them accessible to the Cisco 7900 series of XML enabled phones.
The standard CallManager directory feature only replicates directory informations between the CallManager servers in a cluster.
With App-Pendix you can create a global directory, available to each cluster regardless of the Call Manager cluster configuration.
App-Pendix also supports importing from database tables or Microsoft ActiveDirectory enabled products such as Windows 2000 Server or Exchange.

Features and Benefits

  • Imports CiscoDC directories.
  • Imports database table or views as directories. The database selection, column names and meanings are configurable through a GUI program. Updates to the tables will be reflected automatically in the directory.
  • Special import option for ActiveDirectory imports data sources such as Windows domain information or Exchange directories. Important differences in the LDAP interface and schema makes ActiveDirectory incompatible with CiscoDC.
  • Wizard configuration program allows changes to be done after installation. It imports import table structure and data sources.
  • Scheduled importing means that user intervention is not required.
  • Selective import of directory entries means that only the changes will be replicated across clusters.
  • The resulting directory is accesible from Cisco XML phones as an XML service. User have the ability to search by name, number or an user configurable field.
  • Support for CallManager versions 3.x, 4.x, 5.x, 6.x and CallManager Express

How It Works

App-Pendix directory service uses the power of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 to enable replication between remote clusters into a consolidated search database. The service requires an install per Call Manager Cluster with a supporting SQL Server 2000 install. The service polls the local DC via LDAP and creates a local copy of the DC in SQL Server as a table.
Each SQL Server instance incorporates a Publish and Subscription to each of the other instances of SQL Server. These publishers and subscriptions are consolidated to create a global directory of all sites running per instance of the Call Manager.

Implementation

The App-Pendix directory service and SQL Server 2000 will need to be installed on a server located at each Call Manager cluster site. The service needs DC read permissions and SQL Admin privileges.
To add a new server the administrator will need the DC user name and password and the SQL Server user name and password, as well as the ability to connect to the new SQL Server.
When this new instance of SQL Server is added, a script will create the publishing properties for the database and add it to the list of servers to replicate. Once the publishing properties are set, a DTS task executes against the administrative list of all SQL Servers and subscribes to the server instances to replicate to the local server.
