Add Analog Overhead Speaker System to SA-Announce

In order to add an analog overhead speaker system to SA-Announce, it will have to be connected to CUCM or a Syn-Apps Paging Relay. Paging Relay connection will be mentioned later in this KB.  CUCM connection can be established through an ATA, FXS port, or FXO port.

In CUCM, the overhead system needs to be assigned a Directory Number (DN), allowing it to be dialed directly. In SA-Announce an External Dialer will need to be created with its own DN. The External Dialer DN will only be used by SA-Announce.

We recommend finding a block of unused extensions in CUCM to assign to the external dialers. If possible, this block of numbers should be in a range that users will not dial accidentally.

External Dialers Need to be Created in SA-Announce

The External Phones Setup page allows automatic creation of the dialers used in the analog paging system integration. It is recommended you add a dialer for each simultaneous overhead system activation that may occur, plus extra dialers for busy detection purposes, (i.e., if four sites each have one overhead system [4 + 2], add 6 dialers).

All dialers should have the same Device Pool and Calling Search Space (CSS), since the dialers act as a pool and any one dialer may be used when paging. In other words, all dialers must be able to dial any and all of the overhead systems that are to be integrated with the SA-Announce system.

Paging Relays can be registered to SA-Announce by referring to the Paging Relay Admin Guide (also available from the Syn-Apps web site > Resources > Documentation > Syn-Apps Paging Relay tab).

Add Analog System Attached to Paging Relay to a Paging Group

  1. Click Groups > Create/Edit Groups.
  2. Select Group to edit.
  3. Click on Paging Relay tab (or Syn-Apps IP tab in older versions).
  4. Move Paging Relay from Available to Selected window on right.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Verify changes were saved.

Verify Paging Relay Line Out Configuration

  1. Click Services > Broadcast Services > Advanced Settings.
  2. Select relayLineOutActive from the Select a Setting drop-down list.
  3. Verify Setting Value is True.  If not, set to True and Click Save.

External Dialers

Remember: All dialers should have the same Device Pool and Calling Search Space (CSS) since the dialers act as a pool and any one may be used for a specific notification group. In other words, all dialers must be able to dial any and all of the overhead systems that are to be integrated with the SA-Announce system.

There are two steps:

  • Create external dialers.
  • Configure external phones.

Create External Dialers

  1. Click Settings > External.
  2. Configure the following:
    • Line Number – Your choice.
    • Partition – Your choice.
    • Line CSS – The dialer needs to be able to reach ANY analog device that the dialer could call.
    • Device Pool – Value must supply a g711 codec for the dialer.
  3. Click Add Phone.

The next available line number is presented, (as long as the line number only contains numeric values).

Add enough External Dialers to cover as many concurrent pages as may be started.

Configure External Phones

  1. Click Groups > Create/Edit Groups > External.
  2. Configure the following:
    • Description or Name – Your choice.
    • Number – Enter the DN of the analog system as listed in CUCM.
    • Dial Code (zone) – Enter if required.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Click Save Group and test.

One of the external dialers is used to call the analog overhead paging extension and connect the SA-Announce page to the analog overhead system.

Increase Delay on External Dialer

If the external dialer is calling the external phone too quickly, delays can be added.

SA-Announce 8.1.34 and Higher

  1. Click Services > Broadcast Services > Advanced Settings.
  2. Perform one or both of the following, depending on your environment:
  • To Increase the pause after the connection has been established and before issuing the dial code (zone code), select phoneDialerCodeDelay from the drop-down.
The default is 500 milliseconds. Try 1000 milliseconds. Click Save. Test and continue to raise the Setting Value if necessary.
  • To Increase the pause between dialed digits of the dial code, select phoneDialerDigitDelay from the drop-down.
The default is 100 milliseconds. Try 200 milliseconds. Click Save. Test and continue to raise the Setting Value if necessary.

SA-Announce 8.1.32 and Lower

  1. Open the Registry Editor from Start > Run > Regedit.
  2. Navigate to HKLM\Software\Syn-Apps\SA-Announce.
  3. Perform one or both of the following, depending on your environment:
    • To Increase the pause after the connection has been established and before issuing the dial code (zone code), modify/create the String Value phoneDialerCodeDelay and change the Value Data to 1000 milliseconds.
    • To Increase the pause between dialed digits of the dial code, modify/create the String Value phoneDialerDigitDelay and change the Value Data to 200 milliseconds.
  4. Save the changes and test. Continue raising the values as necessary.
