Point Syn-Apps Software to Upgraded CUCM

Important: Do not start working on the Syn-Apps software until the Communications Manager upgrade is finished.

Will you also be upgrading your Syn-Apps software?

  • If you're not, follow the Existing Syn-Apps Software instructions.
  • If you are, follow the Upgrade Syn-Apps Software instructions.

Existing Syn-Apps Software

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Syn-Apps > [Software Name] > [Software Name] Configuration.
  2. Update the CUCM IP addresses and version on the first page of configuration. Continue with the configuration process until it completes.

Update Syn-Apps Software

If the Syn-Apps server has Internet access:

  1. Select Start > Programs > Syn-Apps > [Software Directory Name] > [Software Directory Name] Update.
  2. Click OK.
  3. Go through the installation and configuration process. Update the CUCM IP addresses and version on the first page of configuration. Continue with configuration until it completes.

If the Syn-Apps Server does not have Internet access:

  1. On a computer with Internet access, download the latest version of the Syn-Apps software from the Syn-Apps website > Resources > Product Downloads page.
  2. Move the downloaded software to the Syn-Apps Server.
  3. From the Syn-Apps Server, launch the software that was downloaded.
  4. Go through the installation and configuration process. Update the CUCM IP addresses and version on the first  page of Configuration. Continue with configuration until it completes.

Additional software specific components to upgrade:

SA-Announce

Phones assigned to notification groups are either SEPFFFF or SYNFFFF phones in CUCM. External Dialers are SEPEEEE or SYNEEEE phones in CUCM. Make sure these phones are copied to the new CUCM.

Install Syn-Apps Device Pack on CUCM (if used):

  1. Log in to CUCM.
  2. Select Device > Phone.
  3. Search for phones where Device Name contains ‘FFFF’.

Call Alert and SA-ERS

Download Cisco TSP Software for install or upgrade:

  1. From CUCM, select Application > Plugins.
  2. Leave Plugin Name field blank and click Find.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • For CUCM 10.5 and above, select TAPI 32-bit Client or Cisco TAPI 64-bit client to download.
      Note: Server 2012/2012 R2 is supported on CUCM 10.5.
    • For CUCM 8.x and above, select Cisco TAPI 32-bit Client or Cisco TAPI 64-bit Client to download.
    • For CUCM 7.x and lower, select Cisco Telephony Service Provider to download.
      Note: 64-bit Clients were supported until CUCM 8.5.
  4. Move the Cisco TSP download to the Syn-Apps server and install.
    Note: CUCM TAPI support for Server 2012 is not available until CUCM 10.5.

Upgrade Cisco TSP Software

  1. From the Syn-Apps server, upgrade the Cisco TSP software.
  2. Take all defaults to upgrade the TSP software.

If you were unable to upgrade the software:

  1. Select Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features.
  2. Uninstall the Cisco TSP software.
  3. Reboot the Syn-Apps server.
  4. Log back into Syn-Apps server and reinstall TSP software, accepting all the defaults.

Call Accounting

Verify CDR Enabled Flag

  1. From CUCM, select System > Service Parameters > Cisco CallManager Service.
  2. Verify CDR Enabled flag is set to True.

Verify / Reconfigure CUCM CDR FTP Export for Call Accounting

  1. From CUCM, select Cisco Unified Serviceability from the navigation drop-down list and click Go.
  2. Select Tools > CDR Management.
  3. Verify there is an entry listed under Billing Application Server Parameters and do one of the following: 
  • Entry exists - skip to Verify FTP Export below.
  • Entry does not exist - add it, then move on to Verify FTP Export below.
    • Click Add New.
    • Enter the application server IP and administrator credentials.
    • Select SFTP or FTP, (depending on how the FTP server was configured (above). Enter "/" for the path.)
    • Click Add.

Note: Call Accounting has not been tested with CUCM 9 and above. It is an end-of-life product and is no longer sold by Syn-Apps.

Verify FTP Export

  1. From the Call Accounting Server, navigate to C:\Program Files\Syn-Apps\Call Accounting\CDR.
  2. Verify that new records are uploading from CUCM.
