Move CallAlert to a New Server

Before You Begin

  • A new CallAlert license is required. Call Syn-Apps Support at 1-866-664-6071 option 2 or email support@syn-apps.com to request one.
  • CallAlert requires the Cisco TAPI Client. This can be installed before or after CallAlert is installed. Follow the Install Cisco Telephony Service Provider (TSP) and Enable TAPI Busy Detection instructions.
    Note:While CallAlert is supported on 64 bit Server 2008 and 2008 R2, Cisco’s 64 bit TSP/TAPI support is only available in CUCM 8.5.1 and higher. Please verify CUCM version before installing CallAlert on new OS.

These are four basic steps:

  1. Download and Install SQL Studio Management on Existing Server to enable SQL backup.
  2. Back up the database.
  3. Install CallAlert on the new server.
  4. Restore the database on the new server.

Download and Install SQL Server Management Studio

SQL Server Management Studio is required to backup the database.

  1. Navigate to: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22985
  2. Click Continue on the x64 download to get access to the 32 and 64 bit downloads.
  3. Download SQL Server Management Studio Express for your OS bit rate version.
  4. Launch the downloaded install file.
  5. On the first Install window, select the Add Features/Install Features option.
  6. On the second Install window, select the New Install option.
  7. Use defaults for the remaining Installation windows.

Back Up Database

  1. Navigate to Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL > SQL Management Studio.
  2. Log in to Database Engine.
  3. Expand database folder and right-click CallAlert 1.3 database and select Tasks > Back Up.
  4. Verify Backup type is set to Full. Make note of the backup destination.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Move database backup to new server.

Install CallAlert on New Server

  1. Download latest version of CallAlert from the Syn-Apps website > Resources > Product Downloads > CallAlert tab.
  2. Install on the new CallAlert server. SQL database engine installs automatically.
    Important: Uncheck Run Configuration on the last screen in Configuration. You're going to restore the database before running the config utility.
  3. Click Finish.

Restore Database

  1. Launch SQL Management Studio from Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL > SQL Management Studio.
  2. Log in to database engine.
  3. Right-click on CallAlert 1.3 database in the databases folder and select Tasks > Restore > Database.
  4. Select your database backup file.
  • Select From Device and then click ellipsis to browse.
  • Click Add in the Specify Backup window.
  • Navigate to the backup file location and click OK.
  1. Check Restore to the left of the database name and then click OK.
  2. Select your database name in the To Database drop-down menu, (usually CallAlert 1.3).
  3. Verify all information is correct.
  4. Click OK.

Run CallAlert Configuration

Did you obtain a new CallAlert license? If not, contact Syn-Apps Support at 1-866-664-6071 option 2 or email support@syn-apps.com to request one.

  1. Move the new license key to C:\Program Files\Syn-Apps\CallAlert.
  2. Click Start > All Programs > Syn-Apps > CallAlert > Configuration.
  3. Input information on screens until configuration completes.

Stop Services on Old CallAlert Server

  1. Log in to old CallAlert server.
  2. Click Start > Run > Services.msc.
  3. Stop the CallAlert Service.
  4. Set Startup type to Disabled for both services.
    Double-click each service name, click the drop-down next to Startup type, select Disabled, and click OK.

Start Services on New CallAlert Server

  1. Log in to new CallAlert server.
  2. Click Start > Run > Services.msc.
  3. Start CallAlert service.

Move Custom Templates

  1. Log in to old CallAlert server.
  2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Syn-Apps\CallAlert\Template.
  3. Do custom template files exist?
    Yes - copy to same location on new CallAlert server.

Install TSP and Enable TAPI Busy Detection

If you have not already done so, follow the Install Cisco Telephony Service Provider (TSP) and Enable TAPI Busy Detection instructions.
