Move SQL 2008 R2 to 2012
The following are basic steps to move the SA-Announce database from the SYNAPPSENT (SQL 2008 R2) instance to a new SYNAPPS (SQL 2012) instance in an environment using Cisco Call Manager.
These are the basic steps:
- Install SQL 2012
- Backup / Move / Restore the Announce and EF databases.
- Run SA-Announce configuration.
- Test the new setup.
Note: Some actions in SA-Announce may run a little slower on SQL 2012 than they did on 2008 R2.
Install SQL 2012
- Download the
SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe
file from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29062. - Follow the installation steps for manually installing SQL 2008 R2 with one exception:
In step 6, change the Named Instance to SYNAPPS (instead of SYNAPPSENT).
Important: DO NOT PERFORM ANY TYPE OF UPGRADE.
Backup / Move / Restore Database
Follow the steps in these sections of the Backup / Move / Restore SA-Announce v9.0.17 and older KB:
- Backup Database – to back up the Announce and EF databases to .bak files.
- Move Database –
- Open the folder where you backed up the databases.
- Move the backup and custom WAV files to the new SYNAPPS SQL instance.
- Restore Database – You'll need to click on the Files tab to redirect restore from the Synappsent/Data folder to the Synapps/Data folder.
Run SA-Announce Configuration
- Run the SA-Announce configuration.
- On the SQL tab, select the SYNAPPS instance.
- Click Next through the rest.
- Cisco customers: After configuration is finished, verify in CUCM that the SEPFFFFs or SYNFFFFs all registered.
- Launch services.msc and disabled the SQL 2008 R2/SYNAPPSENT instance.
Test
These are the tests we ran in our lab.
- Reboot the system to be sure that SQL 2008 R2 was OFFLINE.
- Run a couple test pages. Please make and save changes between tests.
- Create a test group or dialer.
- Delete and re-add your Paging Relay and some test IP speakers.
- Check that Cloud Services works properly.
- Delete the new test group created in step 3 from SA-Announce.
Cisco customers: Please reference the Delete/Recreate groups KB. - Navigate to Services > Broadcast Services and click the Refresh Data button. Check that data successfully refreshed.
